If you know COSRX for one thing, it is probably the snail mucin essence that made half of TikTok's skincare shelf look identical circa 2022, or the acne patches that live in every dorm room medicine cabinet. Color cosmetics were never really the plan. That just changed. COSRX has launched its first ever lip color line, the 5 Peptide Lip Collection, and it is doing the thing every good K-beauty crossover does, which is smuggling actual skincare into a product category that usually just sits there and looks pretty.

What is actually in the collection

The lineup has nine products across three formats. There is the 5 Peptide B5 Barrier Repair Salve Lip Balm for everyday wear, the 5 Peptide Ceramide Barrier Comfort Lip Mask for an overnight reset, and the headline piece, the 5 Peptide Collagen Lip Fill Tinted Treatment, which comes in seven shades ranging from a sheer Strawberry pink to a deep, almost wine toned Black Cherry. Every product in the range is built around what COSRX calls its 5 Peptide Complex, layered with ingredients that will look very familiar if you have ever read a COSRX skincare label: collagen, panthenol, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, squalane and shea butter. The stated goal is addressing dryness, rough texture and the look of fine lip lines, not just adding tint and shine and calling it a day.

The tinted treatments each have their own scent to match the shade name, so Sour Berry Jelly smells like sour candy and Cherry smells like, well, cherry. It is a small detail but it is the kind of thing that makes a lip product feel more like a little treat than a medicinal stick, which matters when you are trying to get people to actually use their skincare consistently.

Why Ulta and why now

The collection debuted online at Ulta.com and on COSRX.com on September 6, with select shades landing in physical Ulta stores on September 20. That in-store rollout is the bigger deal here. COSRX has been sold at Ulta online for a while, but putting a new product line on actual shelves means shoppers can swatch it in person before buying, which is exactly how most people still shop for lip color regardless of how many skincare edits they have watched. It also puts COSRX in direct proximity to the tinted lip balm and lip oil wall that brands like Rhode, Summer Fridays and Laneige have spent the last few years turning into one of the most competitive categories in beauty retail.

That is the real story behind this launch. K-beauty brands built their US reputation on serums and sunscreens, the unglamorous, ingredient forward stuff that skincare obsessives fell for first. Lip tints and lip oils are where the crossover into everyday color cosmetics actually happens, because a lip product is low commitment, easy to swatch and easy to justify buying on impulse. COSRX picking lip care as its entry point into color, instead of jumping straight to blush or a base product, tracks with what has already been working for it. It stays inside a category people trust the brand to be good at, which is skin barrier care, while quietly picking up new customers who came in for the pretty tube and are leaving with a peptide habit.

It also lines up with something that has been building on TikTok for a while now, the whole skinification of makeup trend, where the line between a tinted lip treatment and an actual skincare step has basically dissolved. Nobody wants to choose between color and care anymore, and brands that can credibly deliver both in one product have an easier sell than ones offering just pigment.

Pricing sits in familiar territory for the category, with the balm and mask each around fifteen dollars and the tinted treatment around sixteen, so this is not a splurge purchase in either direction. It is priced to sit comfortably next to the rest of the Ulta lip wall rather than positioning itself as a prestige newcomer.

Beyond Ulta, the collection is also available directly through COSRX's own site and its TikTok Shop, plus Amazon, Revolve, Dermstore, Nordstrom and Target, so it is not exactly hard to get your hands on. For a brand whose entire identity has been built on unglamorous, function first skincare, watching it step into color with this much ingredient detail still attached is a pretty good sign of where K-beauty crossovers are headed next. Less pigment for pigment's sake, more products that are trying to double as a fourth or fifth skincare step you did not know you needed.

Whether the collection actually earns a permanent spot in your bag over the Rhode and Laneige tubes already living there will come down to texture and wear, which no press release can really answer. But as a first swing at color from a brand that built its name on barrier repair, it is a genuinely coherent one, and it is worth a look next time you are near an Ulta lip wall.
