Laneige's New Balance Mode Rice Foaming Cleanser: Ingredients, Price and How to Use It

Laneige's Balance Mode Rice Foaming Deep Cleanser is a 250ml pH-balanced gel-to-foam face wash built for oily and sensitive skin, priced at S$32 on Laneige's Singapore store and around £22 at UK retailers. It combines three kinds of exfoliation in one rinse-off step: rice micro-beads, glycolic acid and a phyto-enzyme. Herworld included it in its October 2026 roundup of new beauty launches.

It is the cleanser in Laneige's Balance Mode line, which the brand pitches as a barrier-first way to handle oily skin. Laneige's pitch is that you get a deep pore clean without the squeaky, stripped feeling that makes oily skin produce even more shine.

What is in Laneige Balance Mode Rice Foaming Deep Cleanser?

The headline ingredient is what Laneige calls its Rice-inamide complex, which pairs niacinamide at 1,250 ppm with rice actives at 2,012.5 ppm. The rice side of the formula uses four ingredients: rice bran water, fermented rice, rice protein and rice inositol.

Then comes the exfoliation trio. Rice micro-beads handle the physical part, glycolic acid is the chemical exfoliant and a phyto-enzyme (protease) covers the enzymatic side. The brand also lists ceramide NP, glycerin and bitter orange flower extract, and says the formula is fragrance free, dermatologist-tested and non-comedogenic.

The texture is a clear peach gel dotted with tiny beads. It sits in a pump bottle in a soft coral shade, and with water it turns into a fine micro-foam.

How do you use it?

For a normal daily wash, Laneige says to massage one to two pumps onto wet skin and rinse thoroughly with water.

For makeup removal, the brand suggests a different order. Massage two to three pumps onto dry skin first, add water to emulsify, then rinse. That makes it more of a one-step option for light makeup days, though anyone wearing waterproof formulas will probably still want a dedicated oil or balm first.

Do the 99.4% and 58% claims hold up?

Laneige says the cleanser removes 99.4% of pore impurities immediately after use and reduces excess sebum after one wash. It also cites a four-week study of 30 women aged 20 to 49, in which 93.3% said their skin felt thoroughly cleansed with no leftover face makeup.

Every one of those numbers comes from the brand's own testing, and we have not seen independent results. Treat them as marketing, not as proof of how your own skin will respond, especially since a sample of 30 people is small.

One practical note: a cleanser with glycolic acid in it is still an exfoliating product. If you already use an AHA toner or a retinoid, it is reasonable to start with a few nights a week and see how your skin feels before going daily.

Who is it for, and who should skip it?

On paper, it suits people with oily or breakout-prone skin who like the clean feel of a foaming wash but want something gentler than a classic high-pH gel. The fragrance-free formula is also a plus for people who find scented cleansers irritating.

If your skin is very dry or you are in the middle of a barrier-repair phase, a gentler non-exfoliating cleanser is likely the smarter pick, and this one can wait. We have a routine guide for that on the site.

The price is mid-range for a K-beauty cleanser, higher than drugstore Korean foaming washes but in line with other Laneige products. Prices and stock vary by country, and one UK Sephora listing showed it as temporarily out of stock when we checked, so confirm availability where you shop.

Where to find it

Laneige sells it through its regional brand stores, including Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, and through retailers such as Sephora UK, John Lewis and Feelunique. We did not find it on the four K-beauty retailers we usually cover, so if you normally shop at YesStyle, Stylevana, Olive Young Global or StyleKorean, check those listings before assuming it is there.
