Shinsegae's HYPER GROUND Pop-Up Brings 30+ K-Beauty Brands to Hudson Yards

Korean department store giant Shinsegae is opening a 2,000 square foot K-beauty pop-up called HYPER GROUND on the ground level of 20 Hudson Yards in Manhattan starting October 2, and it is staying put through December 31. Inside is a lineup of more than 30 Korean beauty brands, and for most of them this is their first ever physical storefront in the United States.

HYPER GROUND is Shinsegae's platform for testing emerging Korean labels in markets outside Korea, and New York is not its first stop. A smaller version ran in Paris at Printemps with around ten brands. The Hudson Yards shop is more than three times that size, which tells you Shinsegae is treating the US as a real priority rather than a one-off experiment.

What's Actually Inside the Shop

The brand list leans toward names that have mostly lived online until now. Skit, the makeup label founded by model Irene Kim, is there alongside the Seoul fragrance and lifestyle brand MiHak. Rounding out the lineup are Bbia, Ongredients, Mujagi, Kundal and Yunjac, covering everything from color cosmetics to skincare to hair care.

The space itself is split into themed zones instead of being organized by brand. Seoul Morning and City Glow covers facial skincare and skin devices. Seoul Senses is built around perfume and home fragrance. Night Reset handles scalp care, hair products and nighttime formulas. That layout makes it easier to shop by what you actually need rather than hunting for a specific label you half remember from TikTok.

A few of these names already have a following even without a US store. Bbia built its reputation in Korea on cushion blushes and long wear lip tints, and Ongredients has leaned into short, ingredient first formulas rather than long marketing led ingredient lists. Having them next to newer names like Mujagi and Yunjac in the same room is really the point of a pop-up like this, it puts an established label and a brand new one on equal footing and lets shoppers decide what is actually worth repurchasing.

Shinsegae is also rotating a dedicated event area week to week, with a different brand taking it over each time for its own activities, offers and gifts with purchase. Details get posted on the HYPER GROUND Instagram account, so that is the one to follow if a specific brand on the roster is the reason you would make the trip.

Why Shinsegae Is Betting on New York Right Now

Shinsegae runs one of Korea's largest department store and duty free networks, so a pop-up like this is less about selling out of a single cart and more about market research. Putting 30 plus brands in front of Hudson Yards foot traffic for three months lets Shinsegae see which labels actually sell in the US before anyone commits to a permanent lease or a wholesale deal.

That caution makes sense given how fast the ground has shifted this year. CJ Olive Young opened its first US store in Pasadena on May 29, stocked with roughly 5,000 products from about 400 brands, then followed with a second location at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles on June 13. Olive Young has said it plans to keep expanding across California before pushing into the East Coast.

Sephora made its own move in the same direction, launching a curated Olive Young assortment of 19 Korean beauty brands across more than 500 of its US stores and on Sephora.com starting August 20. Between that and Target's recent K-beauty push into hundreds of locations, the shelf space for Korean brands in American retail has been growing fast, and HYPER GROUND reads like Shinsegae trying to claim a piece of that before the market gets crowded.

Is the Hudson Yards K-Beauty Pop-Up Worth a Visit?

Opening day comes with actual incentives. Starting at 10am on October 2, the first 200 visitors get a gift bag worth more than $100 with no purchase required. The first 100 customers who spend at least $100 get a bigger bag worth over $300. After that first day, the shop runs seven days a week through the end of the year, so there is no real rush beyond wanting first dibs on brands that have not had a US retail presence before.

What makes this worth paying attention to beyond the free bags is timing. Korean beauty has been pushing harder into physical US retail all year, from Olive Young opening its first American stores in California to Sephora curating a dedicated Olive Young assortment in its stores. A 30 plus brand pop-up from one of Korea's biggest department store operators fits that same pattern, and it is a preview of which smaller labels might show up on US shelves next if this run performs well.

If you are in New York before the end of 2026, HYPER GROUND is a low commitment way to try brands that otherwise mean importing or waiting on a US launch that may never come. Worth noting that KBeauty Codes is not affiliated with Shinsegae, HYPER GROUND or any of the brands involved, this is just a heads up about something genuinely happening at Hudson Yards this fall.
